Kerala, April 05: Gafoor Kolathur is a name that is rapidly gaining popularity in the Indian music industry. A multilingual lyricist, he has penned songs in Arabic, English, Hindi, Urdu and Malayalam. His versatility has made him a sought-after songwriter, with his music arrangements and lyrics being widely appreciated across the country.
Born in Kolathur, Kerala, Gafoor inherited a love for music from his father, who was a madrasa teacher. He pursued his studies in Sabeel ul Hidaya Islamic College, affiliated to Darul Huda Islamic University, where he honed his skills in contemporary studies and language expertise. It was during this time that Gafoor discovered his passion for music, and he started writing songs in multiple languages.
Gafoor’s work as a lyricist gained recognition when he penned a qawwali song for the legendary music director Gopi Sunder. He also composed a Christmas song in Spanish, which was well-received by music lovers. One of his most notable achievements was the lyrics he wrote for the Qatar FIFA World Cup song “Ball Ball Qatar Qatar,” which was sung by playback singer Akbar Khan. Gafoor also wrote the lyrics for the Kuwait National Day song “Eid Al Kuwait,” which was released by Kuwait Governor His Highness Mubarak Al Kabeer and was a hit among the masses.
Apart from being a lyricist, Gafoor has also composed music for various projects. He arranged the music for the Urdu Gazal in the Malayalam movie “Abhyuham,” which received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. He also worked on the Malayalam album “Kannoram,” which was sung by Dana Razik and Fahis Hamza, and the Hindi album “Aashiyaan,” composed by the famous music director Faisal Razi and sung by playback singers Shikha Prabakaran and Faisal Razi.
