Teenager Arrested with Heroin in Samba, Two Others Held

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested three suspected drug peddlers, including a 17-year-old boy, on Monday in Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The police operations took place during the late hours of Sunday night.

The teenager, who was riding a motorcycle, turned out to be carrying 3.36 grams of heroin. Police intercepted him as he traveled from Balole Khad towards JDA Colony in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba. During the search, authorities discovered the narcotic hidden on his person, prompting immediate detention. The police seized both the motorcycle and the contraband.

“A case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the teenager. He was subsequently presented before the competent authority,” stated a police spokesman. Following due legal procedures, the juvenile was sent to the observation home at R S Pura, Jammu, where he will remain under supervision.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Kathua, police apprehended two additional narcotic smugglers, seizing 23 grams of heroin in the Galak area of Billawar late Sunday evening. The individuals have been identified as Pawan Dev Singh from Majalta in Udhampur and Naresh Singh from Makwal-Ramkot in Kathua.

The police confirmed that both men face charges under the NDPS Act, as authorities continue to ramp up their efforts against the growing drug menace in the region. An official statement emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating drug-related crimes.

These arrests form part of an ongoing initiative by the Jammu and Kashmir police to tackle drug trafficking, which has been a rising concern affecting the youth and communities in the region. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb the drug trade.

The Jammu and Kashmir police have expressed determination to increase their efforts, especially with the alarming rise in drug-related cases. This incident not only highlights the challenges faced by the authorities but also raises questions about the need for preventive measures and rehabilitation for young offenders caught in the vice of substance abuse.
