BSF Jawan Martyred in Unprovoked Firing by Pakistani Rangers Along Jammu’s International Border

JAMMU, Nov 9: Tragedy struck as a BSF jawan lost his life in an unprovoked firing incident initiated by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on Thursday. This marks the third ceasefire violation in the past 24 days by Pakistan Rangers along the IB in the Jammu frontier.

The BSF jawan sustained injuries during the firing on Border Outposts and was promptly evacuated to a local hospital, subsequently transferred to the GMC Hospital in Jammu. Despite efforts, the jawan succumbed to his injuries.

On the night of November 8th and 9th, Pakistan Rangers engaged in unprovoked firing in the Ramgarh area, provoking a fitting response from BSF troops, according to a statement from the Border Security Force (BSF).

Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Block Medical Officer at Ramgarh Community Health Centre, confirmed that the injured BSF jawan sought treatment around 1 am following the Pakistani firing.

The firing, which commenced around 12.20 am, escalated into shelling, causing a sense of fear along the IB. Local resident Mohan Singh Bhatti of Jerda village recounted the events, highlighting the prevailing fear psychosis.

This incident follows a similar episode on October 28, when Pakistan Rangers engaged in heavy firing and shelling for seven hours, resulting in injuries to two BSF jawans and a woman. On October 17, two BSF personnel were injured in unprovoked firing by the rangers in the Arnia sector. This marks the sixth violation since the ceasefire agreement signed on February 25, 2021.
