Satish Sharma Meets Deputy CM; Demands Sub-District Hospital Status

Jammu: Satish Sharma, Pradesh Congress General Secretary and former Chairman of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, met Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday at the Secretariat in Kashmir. The meeting focused on critical public issues including the demand to elevate Rajiv Gandhi Hospital to Sub-District Hospital status, alongside addressing road and infrastructure concerns in the Gangyal region.

Sharma emphasized the necessity of granting Sub-District Hospital status to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, located in Gangyal. He stated that this demand has lingered for too long and has become increasingly urgent as the local population continues to grow. A significant number of residents depend on the hospital for essential healthcare services.

“Providing Sub-District Hospital status will allow for improved medical services, including the recruitment of specialist doctors and medical staff, along with the induction of modern medical equipment,” Sharma highlighted.

He added that many residents are currently forced to travel long distances to receive medical attention. By upgrading Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, healthcare would be more accessible, thus greatly benefiting the local community.

In addition to healthcare, Sharma raised concerns about the poor conditions of roads in Gangyal. He called for a thorough survey of various roads to initiate blacktopping work, which he stated is urgently needed. The crumbling infrastructure presents daily challenges for local residents, students, and vehicle drivers.

Sharma also brought to attention the critical need for the reconstruction of the damaged canal bridge at Bawaliana. He described the current conditions as hazardous, particularly during the rainy season when commuting becomes perilous.

Lastly, he voiced concerns regarding road construction in Dadap Panchayat. Local residents struggle with inadequate road connectivity, which hampers both daily activities and the area’s overall development. Establishing proper roads is vital for enhancing access and stimulating growth.

In response to these pressing issues, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary assured Sharma that he would prioritize these demands and would instruct the relevant officials to take swift action to address the highlighted concerns.
