₹1.20 Crore Property of Drug Peddler Seized in Srinagar

In a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking, the Srinagar Police attached immovable property valued at approximately ₹1.20 crore belonging to notorious drug peddler Nisar Ahmad Sheikh. This action is part of the ongoing 100 Days Campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, aimed at combating drug abuse and trafficking.

The attachment occurred on Tuesday under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act by officers from Police Station Nowhatta. It relates to FIR No. 61/2019, which includes charges under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act, highlighting the seriousness of drug-related offenses.

The confiscated assets comprise a fully renovated three-storey residential house, a separate single-storey concrete kitchen block with three washrooms, and land spanning nine marlas. These properties have been directly linked to illegal drug trafficking activities.

Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Habibullah Sheikh and a resident of Kani Dewar, Sheikh Mohallah, Hawal in Srinagar, reportedly acquired this property using the proceeds from his illicit drug trade. Police investigations confirmed that the real estate was obtained through unlawful means and hence, has been attached under the NDPS Act.

The swift action taken by the Srinagar Police emphasizes their robust resolve to dismantle the financial networks supporting drug dealers. Authorities have declared war on narcotics, asserting that such operations will continue until the scourge of drug abuse is eradicated from society.

“We remain committed to intensifying operations against drug traffickers,” stated a police spokesperson. The department urges residents to actively participate in this campaign by reporting any suspicious activity related to drug abuse or trafficking.

This move marks a significant milestone in the government’s Nasha Mukt initiative, which aims to create a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir. By eliminating the financial underpinnings of drug peddling, the authorities hope to curtail the availability of narcotics and bring about a significant decline in drug-related crimes.

Experts note that the attachment of properties linked to drug trafficking scales up pressure on criminals and serves as a deterrent. The active participation of the community forms a crucial part of this strategy, as public vigilance can provide valuable insights into ongoing drug trade operations.

The ongoing campaign has already led to several arrests and the seizure of illicit substances across the region, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing substance abuse. The latest action in Srinagar signals a warning to other drug-related operatives in the area, reinforcing that law enforcement will not relent in their fight against narcotics.
